Natalie’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge Day 6

Day 6 : “Finding your Tribe”

Choosing a mentor is a very important part of your career. My favorite thing about mentors is that you can have as many as you want. You can have a different mentor for every aspect of your life, not just work. A mentor is someone you can look to for guidance and leadership. They help you when you are feeling lost and need advice on what path to take.

I have spent the last year working full time in the salon. I am now focusing on blogging. When I was in the salon my mentors were my boss/owner, Stephanie Brinkerhoff and my stylist friend Melissa. I drew inspiration and knowledge from these three in different way. My boss, Kristi, I worked with one on one everyday. I was able to pick her brain and ask her for help. She was the owner of the salon I worked at and I admired the leap she took from being a stylist to opening a salon as well as her cutting, coloring and up-do skills. Stephanie Brinkerhoff was not as easily accessible as my boss that I saw daily. Stephanie is a very, very talented bridal stylist. She started her career in 2007 and now travels the world to teach and style weddings. Melissa is a friend that I have known for about seven years. I met her at the first salon that I worked at while I was in college. We started at the salon within a few weeks of each other and I have watched her grow to a top stylist at the salon. I draw different types of inspiration from each mentor and my relationship with each is very different, as well.

Now that I am getting into blogging I am starting to add to my mentor portfolio. My main mentor right now is Jaclyn Hill. She is a makeup artist and entrepreneur that has created her own empire. Jaclyn has her own YouTube channel as well as being a beauty and fashion blogger.

Jaclyn inspires me because she paved her way from the bottom to become her own brand. She lives the life that I aspire to live. She travels and does what she loves. She is passionate about her work and truly enjoys what she does everyday.

Setting Yourself Up for Success in Your Freedom Lifestyle

In my Twenty Somethingish years of existence I have realized that I am completely unproductive in the evening. On the contrary I am very productive in the morning. Since my current apartment does not have an extra room that I can convert to an office I have a very hard time focusing and getting work done when I am at home. Give me a coffee shop and a fresh cup of coffee and I am in my zone.

The biggest challenge thus far in creating my freedom lifestyle has been that I am my own boss. There is no one measuring my productivity or telling me what I need to do. It has become my own responsibility to have the self discipline to be productive and efficient on a daily basis.

Here’s my regimen for a successful day:

~Wake up – Cause first thing’s first.
~Set my MIA’s for the day – Setting my MIA’s (most important actions) is new and something that is helping me a lot. By setting the top 2-4 things I need to do gives me intentions for the day and gives me a sense of accomplishment once achieved.
~Put on nice(ish) outfit  – I may not have a dress on everyday but dressing well makes me feel good. Wearing yoga pants all day makes me want to be lay on the couch and binge watch Netflix. It makes me feel tired and less motivated. Plus, fashion is fun.
~Go to the coffee shop – After I get dressed I go to the coffee shop. I try to set an intention for how long I will be there before I go. I usually like to spend at least four hours a day, everyday towards my blog. After I order my coffee I grab a table, set up my lap top and get to work.

After today’s challenge I am looking into the Pomodoro Technique. Hey, anything to boost efficiency!

Natalie’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge Day 4

Unlocking Your Superpowers

Day 4 of this challenge has me thinking about my “superpowers.” What things am I really good at? Hmmm…

I believe I have 2 superpowers-talking to people and making people feel good about themselves.

The number one thing I would classify as my superpower would be talking to people. Typical, right? I’ve been given the gift to be able to talk to anyone, about anything. People tell me everything. In my year I spent behind the chair I was able to create so many relationships that went beyond hair and makeup. People would open up to me about their life. They felt comfortable communicating me, asking my opinion and simply venting to me about their goods and bads. I have a gift to be able to build solid and lasting relationships with all walks of life and every relationship means the world to me.

My second superpower, having the ability to make people feel good about themselves, is both a talent and a hobby. It’s the reason I am in the beauty industry. The feeling of knowing that I made someone feel good about themselves and walk a little taller is my favorite feeling. I strive to make the world a more beautiful place. I love the feeling of doing someone’s hair or makeup and seeing them look in the mirror with a huge smile across their face. I enjoy teaching people things that they can do everyday to make them feel a little more confident and more beautiful than they already are. Confidence is key and I am lucky to have the ability to give that to people.

What are your superpowers?

[Day 3] Creating A Vision For The Future

Laying in my king bed I wake up to the smell of my dark roast coffee brewing in my kitchen. It’s about 8 am, my routine wake up time. The sun is shining in through my window as I crawl out from under my down comforter. My bedroom window overlooks the water. There’s sand and a breeze. My window is open and the air feels wonderful as I make my way down the hall to the kitchen and pour myself a cup of black coffee in my favorite mug. I drink my coffee on the back patio while I check my emails and catch up on my blog. Morning is my favorite time to do work. I finish what needs to be done before I go to my yoga class. Morning is also my favorite time to work out. I spend an hour at yoga. Yoga helps me relax and set my intentions for the rest of the day.

After yoga I run errands. I grocery shop at the local market or grab lunch with my mom. My mom and I like to get lunch at local restaurants where we can eat organic and freshly harvested food. My mom and I spend an hour or so catching up on our previous day. I love when my mom comes over after lunch and hangs out. It makes the day better.

After lunch I like to see where the day takes me. Some days I’ll go home and food prep dinner for the next few nights or maybe go out to a nice dinner with friends. I enjoy spending evenings at trendy spots. I take Ubers everywhere. I don’t like to drive.

I always like to wind my days down with a glass of wine before bed. White is my preference.

Natalie’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge Day 2

Why do I want to live the freedom lifestyle?

Who doesn’t want the freedom to live their life how they choose? My main reason that I want to live the freedom lifestyle is because I want to be able to live life to the fullest. I want to be able to experience as much as I can and create as many memories with those that I love. I want to live life the fullest. I don’t ever want to say no because I have to say no. I strongly dislike limitations. I don’t want to miss life’s milestones. I want to attend my niece’s birthday parties, my best friend’s bridal shower and say yes when the opportunity to go on the trip of a lifetime arises. I don’t want my life to be limited because I couldn’t get a shift covered. I want the freedom to be able to enjoy my morning cup of coffee without rushing to get to work on time. Life is more fulfilling when you get to choose how you spend it and who you spend it with. Like the adage goes- “Life isn’t measured by the number of breaths you take, it’s the moments that take your breath away.”

Natalie’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge Day 1

Hey guys! So, let’s be honest. I am new to blogging. I have decided to take on Natalie’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge to kick off my site. Natalie is the Chief Adventurer and Freedom Fighter at suitcaseentrepeneur.com. This challenge is meant to outline the challenges we come across while paving our path to the life we desire. Day 1 is about “Finding your Focus”. We all have distractions and challenges that slow us down from the life we envision for ourselves; here are mine.

1.) Procrastination

I am a procrastinator. I always have been. It started in elementary school. I remember telling my mom I didn’t have homework, there was nothing I had to read, and there wasn’t a test coming up any time soon. Then I would come home from school a few days later and have to sit at the dining room table and do 4 worksheets and read 5 chapters for a test that was the following day. This trait followed me through high school and then college where I would regularly pull all nighters and get two hours of sleep before exams and finals. I convinced myself that “I strive under pressure” and that it was okay to wait til the last minute as long as I pulled through and got what I needed to accomplished.

2.) Social Media

I know I’m not the only one to find myself spending precious hours each day looking at people’s vacation pictures, reading friend’s drawn out posts or creeping on an ex boyfriend. I have it all-Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Tmblr, etc. There are two ways of utilizing social media- constructively and non-constructively.  I’ve gone so far as deleting apps on my phone only to find myself re downloading them 2 hours later. Talk about addiction. Social media connects us to the world. It helps us network and promote ourselves once we learn to utilize it properly. In fact, if it wasn’t for social media I wouldn’t have found this challenge. Using social media in a constructive way is something I have been working on lately. Unfortunately, I still find myself sidetracked at times watching Buzzfeed videos about cats or taking random surveys to find out which astrological sign I am most compatible with but I am working on putting a major effort into limiting the time wasting on these sites.

3.) Time

Time is a precious thing. It’s one of the few things we are not promised and we can never it get back. I find myself not giving time the respect that it deserves. This is outlined in my first two distractions above. Everything that we do uses time. Every minute of every day should be used constructively, especially when working towards a goal. “I’ll do it tomorrow” does not cut it when paving a path to the life you desire.
